Over the weekend I worked on this card. I still had that pack of ephemera flowers out in my crafting area (aka the dining room table 😉). I thought it would be good to do another project with something from the pack, and I quickly decided that these blue flowers were the ones. I struggled a bit with this card, it didn’t come together as quickly and easily as my last one.
I tried doing an embossed layer for the green, and didn’t really like that. Then I tried 3 vertical strips for the green, similar to one of the Stampin’ UP! sketches on page 22. That was even worse – my math brain wasn’t working great for getting 3 strips to seem even. So I went back to the drawing board and decided that a background stamp would be simpler, and that’s how I arrived at the dotted background that you see here. I used the Drizzling Droplets stamp which was one of the items in the March Online Exclusive release. This is the first time I’ve used it, and I have to say that I really like it! I bet it would go wonderfully with the Simply Sparkling bundle which is another Online Exclusive. I like the subtle look on this card with the white Craft ink, it’s not plain but it doesn’t compete with the focal layer.
So… the moral of my story is to not give up. Not every card will be a breeze to put together, and some design ideas will turn out less spectacular than you envisioned. It’s all ok. It’s only cardstock, and it’s perfectly fine AND NORMAL to have some mis-steps that make you re-think things. This is part of the creative process, and it’s how you continue to discover what you like and what you feel “meh” about. The important thing is to enjoy what you’re doing, and know when to set it aside for a little bit.
