I know that Jim Henson can’t receive a physical birthday card any more, but I would still like to virtually share a card with his spirit on his special day. His creative genius paved the way for the juggernaut that is Sesame Street and his influence is still being felt throughout the entertainment industry. My latest favorite is a series of commercials for Farmers Insurance featuring Sesame Street characters and J. K. Simmons. They made me smile when I discovered them on the internet; you can check them out here.
When you look at this card you may be curious about the papers that I used. I’m typically an all Stampin’ Up! gal, but I had a weak moment at the local big box craft store recently and I purchased these papers. I have a soft spot for paisley, and I happened to spot the bottom paper and it screamed “take me home” to me! So, I purchased other papers that coordinated at the store, since I didn’t know what Stampin’ Up! colors would go with them. That is still one of my favorite things about Stampin’ Up!; you know the colors in papers and it makes coordination easy-peasy. I did go back to my zone by using Stampin’ Up! ink, stamps, and accessories.
I did buy the papers with a special purpose in mind. I’ve shared before some cards that I’ve designed for the birthday card ministry at our church. I purchased these papers to create a batch of cards for the next month of birthday celebrations. I’ve been working with the card ministry women for over a year now, and I’m very gratified to hear that they have received many positive comments on the handmade cards. I absolutely love brightening someone’s day with a special card!
I looked through the archives and found this older sketch which was just the ticket to show off the patterned papers that I purchased. I do especially like this sketch, and I’m mulling using it again for a Christmas card event that I’m planning.
