Last evening the South Burlington stamp club group made this card as their second card of the evening. It was another lovely evening of stamping and companionship. We talked about kids, grand-babies, Dragon Boat races, cheesy pick-up lines, and I surprised them with their copies of the Holiday Catalog. I love getting together with these ladies every month!

The trickiest part of this card was creating the framed, sponged background on the main panel. I used the grid layout on the Imperial side of the Stampin’ Grid paper to line up Post-It Notes along the edges so that 1/4″ inch of the Whisper White paper was covered on each side. Once the panel was masked, then I used sponges to apply ink (primarily Pool Party with a small dab of Coastal Cabana) working from left to right so that the left end is darker. Once I had it sponged to my satisfaction I removed the Post-It Notes and stamped the dandelion image in Basic Gray ink.

Since I used a 3D Embossing Folder on this card, I’m reminded that I need to inform you of something different with these folders as of the 2019 Annual Catalog. These embossing folders are being made by a different manufacturer, and they aren’t quite as thick as the ones made by Sizzix. To accommodate that, Stampin’ Up! has a Embossing Folder Plate that you can purchase to act as a shim to make up the thickness difference. Or… if you have the Big Shot and the Magnetic Platform, you can use that instead of the regular platform. I learned that little trick from a fellow demonstrator here in the Inter-Webz – huzzah!

I also designed this card to participate in this challenge that ends today. Nothing like sneaking it in under the wire! I really like the layout of this sketch, and it seems quite versatile to me and I’ll likely use it again as a guide.

Edited 8/16: I’m super excited to share that my card was picked as Runner Up in the challenge! This is the closest badge that I could find on the site since I’m not exactly the winner, so I decided that Runner Up is like Honorable Mention. This was an amazing way to start my weekend!
