World Card Making Day Virtual Event – October 5th – 4-5:00 pm (EDT)
You may be wondering – what is WCMD? It stands for World Card Making Day, and it is an event that was started several years ago by a paper crafting magazine. There’s a special day for just about anything; for instance, today is International Translation Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Canada), and National Love People Day (I especially like that one). So it isn’t surprising that there’s a day to celebrate card making. It is a great chance to enjoy this craft that we love, get some inspiration and make some cards.
This year Stampin’ Up! is offering a free, virtual event that is open for anyone and everyone to join. You can click on the image above to get even more info, or click here. Registration is required to receive the link to join the event. The event will last about ~1 hour and is focused on introducing new people to this fantastic creative outlet. Even though it is focused on new people, it is sure to be fun and interesting for everyone. If you can’t attend on Saturday (Oct. 5th) you can still enjoy the event later. With your registration you will have online access to the recorded event so you can watch (and play along) when it works for you.
Below is a listing of the products that will be used at the event. The first products through the Paper Snips will be used for the items that are presented during the event. The additional products starting with the Basic White Note Cards & Envelopes are for additional projects that they will share, but won’t create in real time. Unfortunately, all of the Ephemera packs they’ll be using and the Calming Creek cards and envelopes are currently unavailable. I contacted Stampin’ Up! to ask about their suggestions for people that won’t be able to have them for the event. They suggested looking through supplies that you already have for something comparable that folks can use, and highlighted the availability of the video later so people can re-watch once they are able to get the supplies (if they want to recreate the cards exactly). It’s not a wonderfully satisfying answer, but I guess that I’m happy for Stampin’ Up! that these products are more popular than anticipated. I also understand that they had planned this event, including all of the materials that they’ll present, before the products were out of stock. I’ll be frank, it’s not awesome, but it can still be a lot of fun to watch what they do and then use my creative juices to make adjustments with what I do have.
I hope that you’ll sign up and join a massive group of people that are watching and participating online on Saturday. It’s sure to be a fun hour!
