valentine_card_in_a_boxI was doing some surfing around the inter-webz the other day just to see if I could find any inspiration out there. In my searches, I found directions to make a very cool "card in a box". I'm not sure how I missed the craze since a tutorial was published on-line last fall. But, I figure better late than never! And as things go in this world, once I saw the design, a few minutes later a friend of mine shared two amazing creations on Facebook using the same tutorial. Great minds think alike!

You can't see it, but there are pieces of cardstock that go across the top of the inside of the box. I've attached different pieces to those strips to creat a very cool 3D effect. A couple of the smaller embossed hearts are attached to pieces of window sheet, so they are "floating" above the rest of the pieces and they can wobble, too.

This card features almost exclusively retired Stampin' Up! products as well as a few items that are what we demonstrators call "contraband".  I spent about 3 hours making this card, so it's going to a very special someone (my darling hubby) this Valentine's Day. I'm thinking about making another "card in a box" with a floral theme, so stay tuned.

I used the following supplies to make this card:

  • Stamps: Filled with Love (retired), You Are Loved (retired)
  • Ink: Real Red
  • Cardstock: Chocolate Chip, Real Red, Very Vanilla, Pretty in Pink (retired)
  • Accessories*: Fashionable Hearts Embosslits, Adorning Accents embossing folder, Fancy Fan embossing folder, Hearts Collection Framelits, Windows Sheets, Sending Love Specialty DSP (retired), Real Red Satin ribbon (retired), Expressions Thinlets (retired from Holiday catalog)

*Does not include non-Stampin' Up! products
