I’ve seen some stunning cards created with the Sunrise Sailing bundle, and I had to get a little inky with the set to give it a shot. I’ve seen a lot of cards that featured a blended sky background and that was the inspiration for my card here. This bundle is fantastic for creating summer themed cards featuring a sailing or ocean theme. There is a lake nearby and multiple marinas where you can find lots of sailboats.
One summer several years ago, we joined some friends for a sailboat cruise from Shelburne Bay up to Valcour Island and back. We ate, sailed, and generally had a glorious evening enjoying the lake. As I created this card I was thinking of our hosts – Ernie and Bette – and their love of sailing and their adventures living on their sailboat for several years. They got to visit some fantastic places!
I was thinking of some amazing sunrises that I saw in Key West when I created the blended sky on my card. I didn’t see any sail boats early in the morning when we visited there many years ago, but the sunrises were absolutely stunning! In fact, I more likely saw a cruise ship going by as they were nearing the Key West dock so they could deposit their tourists for the day.
To create this scene I stamped the sailboat and then created masks using Masking Paper to protect the stamped sailboat image as I added blended water and sky. I added the water ripples with stamps in the stamp set and some birds in the sky. I’m sorry – when I look at those stamped birds my mind doesn’t think “bird”. Instead I think the images look more like bats. And I watched a video recently from another Stampin’ Up!™ demonstrator and she thinks the same thing, so I’m not the only one. Bats are great too – they are amazing insect eaters, so I’m ok with having them in the sky on my creations. 😉
