I don’t know if I’ve shared here before that I’m a member of the Deacons at our church. I was welcomed into the committee 2 years ago and I’ve really enjoyed every minute of it. My fellow members on the committee are wonderful, caring people and really appreciate that I’ve gotten to know them better since I joined the committee. Anyhow, one of the things that we do each month is sign up to send cards to people that are having tough – or joyful – events happening in their lives. I regularly sign up for a card or two each month since I love making cards and it’s also a joy to send them out. In the Fall we talked about sending cards to people that had just joined the church as members. The Deacons are involved in the New Members Class and in the ceremony during a worship service where the members are welcomed. I offered to send cards to all of them, and I really liked doing that. So at the May Deacons meeting I signed up to make cards for the new members that joined in April. This is the card design that I came up with. The stamped sentiment is part of the Benediction that our Pastor ends each service with, so it seems especially perfect for these cards. I’m going to keep this stamp set, even though it is retired, for a really long time.

I dug through the archives of past sketches and found this one which seemed just the ticket for the card I wanted to make. I knew that I wanted to used some of the Splendid Autumn DSP for the vertical strip and I wanted a popped greeting. This sketch totally fit the bill. The Splendid Autumn paper was on the Last Chance list, but I just checked and discovered that it isn’t available any more. This paper is gorgeous and I hope you were able to get some while you could. In fact, I think everything except the cardstock and ink I used is retired. I’m using a bunch more retired stuff because I want to keep using the things I love. I hope that you are able to find inspiration and use the things that you have to create. The really important thing is doing something creative that brings you joy. Do more of that!
