Is it a prize winner?
This is my second card front that I created for “general swapping” at the Leadership conference. I love the new stamp sets in the mini catalog that coordinate with the new Framelits dies. The dies are so easy to use, and I love the multiple sizes available in each set. I was drawn to the Apothecary Art stamp set despite my dislike for using images that need to be colored. I practiced coloring the flowers on this card front at least a half dozen times with different media and colors before I settled on the markers that I used in the image shown. I don’t remember where I got this color scheme, but I love the combination and it gave me a chance to use some of the beautiful DSP from the new Occasions mini as well.
This layout is based on a recent sketch from the Mojo Monday blog. I frequently use sketches to get me started on a card or scrapbook page design. I used the doily die (cut into quarters) for the circle element on this card. I was excited to use that new die, and I think it adds a nice element to the design. I will say that it was annoying to have to poke out each of the little cut-out pieces, but the end result is worth it. I just brought my cut doilys downstairs and poked the bits out while watching tv with my darling hubby. The other elements are similar to the sketch, although I dropped the three little dots above the dark strip. I considered using pearls, but I was afraid that they wouldn't transport very well in my luggage, or that they would create impressions in other cards if they were squished together. I'll be entering this card into a stamping contest that Stampin' Up! is holding at the conference. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will be deemed worthy for a prize, although I'm sure the competition will be really tough. There are some amazing artisans who are demonstrators for Stampin' Up!
