This was the more complicated card that we made at the Essex stamp club meeting earlier this month. A couple of the ladies were considering this stamp set, so I was able to give them an opportunity to play before buying. This card did take us a while because there are lots of different things going on, but we worked through each step and all was fine. Both of the stamp sets that we used for this card are “carry-over” sets that were in the last catalog. However, there are some new colors on this card, so there is definitely some old meeting new here. Since there aren’t coordinating dies for the High Tide stamp set, the gals got to learn about “fussy cutting” for the lighthouse image. They all did it like champs! Also, you can’t see it from the picture, but the water glistens due to the application of Wink of Stella.
I used this sketch as the starting point for this card design. This is actually an older sketch from this challenge site, but I thought that the elements could come together well to show off the High Tide stamp set. Just so you know that I have stamping challenges, too – my first attempt at this card wasn’t so great. I used an embossing folder on gray cardstock for the vertical panel and I added another punched element. It was way too much and seemed a bit like a carnival happening on the card. So, I started over and changed it to this version. I’m way more happy with how this one turned out, and it is a closer match to the card sketch.
