Balloon Celebration This is another of the cards that I featured at the All-Occasion Card Buffet last weekend. I actually designed this card a couple of months ago, and decided to hold onto until that  event. The bright colors and balloons make this card perfect for wishing a Happy Birthday to anyone. Sadly the patterned paper on the sides of the card is retired as of the end of May, but the rest of the products that I used on the card are still available. If you wanted to make this card using current products, you could use some of the 2015-17 Envelope paper, 2015-17 DSP stack, or Fruit Stand DSP to have some Watermelon Wonder pattern on the sides. The stamps and the coordinating punch first made their appearance in the Occasions catalog that came out in January, and I was absolutely thrilled that those products were brought forward into the new "big" catalog. laugh

I used the color challenge shown for my inspiration. Aren't these colors just fantastic for a birthday wish? I did make a couple of color substitutions so that I could use current colors, but I think that those swaps worked out great. I decided that Watermelon Wonder is the new Poppy Parade, and Old Olive is a great stand-in for Lucky Limeade. Thankfully the other colors are still current so I didn't have to figure out something different. I used the same inks for the solid part of the balloon image as well as the dotty highlights at the bottom, I just "stamped off" the solid image first before stamping on the Whisper White cardstock to achieve the lighter shading.

I also used this sketch when I was designing this card. In this case, the collection of balloons are what make up the partial circle that you see on the sketch design. That's part of what I love about using sketches for a design; there aren't rules and you can interpret the layout in a way that works for you.
