I realized after I created the title for this post that it could be interpreted in a couple of ways. Of course, I’m talking about the mushrooms on the patterned paper for this batch of birthday cards. But… I could see someone that doesn’t know me wondering if she’s giving away some magic mushrooms for birthday gifts. Rest assured – this is totally about the former and not the latter. I’ve never tried ‘shrooms and I don’t intend to start any time soon. Although… my son has a friend that was doing a chaplain residency a year ago and monitoring patients mushroom trips was part of her job. Who knew?!?
I created a batch of these cards for the October card ministry for the church. Yes, I am late. But – I had created enough surplus in past months that the card givers had plenty to get them started for this month. This is my go-to card design when I want to make up something quickly and make a bunch of them. This time around I pulled out some paper that retired several years ago, some retired ribbon and I was off to the races. This paper is called Painted Seasons and I think – maybe – it was a Sale-A-Bration offering. There are some great patterns and it has some retired In Colors as well. The green is Call Me Clover – remember that one? That’s a blast from the past! I had never used the mushroom paper, but it has such a pretty fall vibe that it seemed perfect for this time of year. I also pulled out a stamp from a past Paper Pumpkin kit. There’s lots of retired goodness on this card! So my creative tip to you – visit your old stash of stuff. Things that you haven’t used in quite a while can feel new again. And you get the lovely virtuous feeling of using up stuff that you have on hand.
