mojo_432_teacup_heartI designed this card for our stamp club gathering that happened last Wednesday; we did two heart related projects since Valentine's Day is fast approaching. For both of the projects we used some of the gorgeous Love Blossoms DSP that is in the Occasions catalog. For this card I also made use of the Cups & Kettle Framelits (from the Occasions catalog) for the teacup and little heart shape of vellum steam. I totally fell in love with the teacup stamps and framelits bundle and had to have them on my pre-order for this new catalog. I love the sentiment used here that is from the new set called "Suite Sayings" – it isn't explicitly a Valentine's wish, but I think it is very appropriate for the season.

I used the sketch at the right as my inspiration for this card. I'm also VERY happy that I'm posting this in time to participate in the challenge while it is active, to continue to meet my personal goal to participate at least once a month in a challenge. I think the pattern of the middle DSP banner on this card doesn't quite have enough contrast, but overall I am happy with how the card turned out. The original sketch is square, but I opted to go for a standard card size of 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". That's one of the beautiful things about using a sketch – you don't have to be tied to replicating the sketch completely, you can start from there and improvise. Even though I made some changes, I think you can still clearly see how this card follows the sketch.

So here's my challenge to you… look at some sketches online, pick one and use it as a launching point to design your own card. The key to designing is that you have to keep doing it – you likely won't come up with something amazing every time, but you will learn what you like and find your own style the more you do it. Come on, give it a try!
