This is my interpretation of an online challenge for a class I took. This particular challenge is so incredibly easy and it features some of the great Designer Series Paper (DSP) that Stampin’ Up!™ offers. I used this challenge as the inspiration to create the church card ministry cards for February birthdays. This design is perfect for using a full sheet of DSP to create 12 cards. I absolutely love it when I can use a full sheet of paper with no scraps or waste! It feeds the frugal portion of my soul. 😁

This is the design for the other 12 cards that I created using the challenge inspiration. I needed ~24 cards for February, so this was absolutely perfect. Isn’t it amazing how changing the DSP and the background cardstock color creates a very different looking card? I did swap the flower for the leaf, so that helps, but this card feels much more masculine to me than the first one. And they are both lovely!
Here are the cutting dimensions I used for the cards:
- Basic White Thick: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
- Pool Party (1st card), Wild Wheat (2nd card): 5 1/4″ x 4″
- Basic Black (1st card), Early Espresso (2nd card): 4 1/8″ x 3 1/8″
- Unbounded Beauty DSP (1st card), Country Woods DSP (2nd card): 4″ x 3″
And here is the way that you can create the “spotlight” look with the stamped images overlapping the DSP and background cardstock:
- Use temporary adhesive to attach the DSP to the center of the background cardstock
- Stamp the images so they overlap the DSP and the cardstock
- There will be a void in the stamped image around the edges of the patterned paper
- A stamp tool like the Stamparatus or Misti is very helpful to make this void smaller by allowing you to put pressure on a section of the stamp, and to re-stamp if the image isn’t crisp
- Remove the DSP and attach it to the mat
- Adhere the matted DSP to the stamped cardstock background, lining up the stamped images so they look complete
- Adhere that unit to the card base, and you’re done unless you want to add some embellishments (I added 3 retired pearls)
- Tip: It is best to used DSP that has a light pattern so it doesn’t distract from the stamped images
- Tip: I think it’s best to use line art images rather than solid images for the stamping, but you absolutely can experiment to see what you like best
