This card features an embossed foil layer that is really beautiful. I think technically that the foil is debossed rather than embossed because the pattern is pressed into the foil, rather than raised. But whatever – that’s not the important bit, it’s a beautiful way to use dies to create an element for your cards.
You can create your own version of this look with dies that you have on hand. The stamps and dies that I used for this card are retired, but you can still use the ideas with supplies you have on hand. Here is how I created the debossed look on the foil:
- Place the foil layer face down on the Melon Mambo mat layer so that the white back of the foil is showing and it’s centered.
- You can use low tack tape to hold the foil in place so it doesn’t shift in the subsequent steps
- Flip the matted paper over so the back of the Melon Mambo mat is on top
- Place the die on top of the Melon Mambo cardstock and run through your die cutting machine
- The thickness of the Melon Mambo cardstock means that it shouldn’t cut into the foil, rather it will create an impression
- Separate the layers and attach the debossed gold foil to the Melon Mambo mat
- Ta da!

This is the inside of the card which has a stamped greeting (in black) and additional diecut butterflies that I cut from another piece of the gold foil. I cut the butterfly that you see on the left of the foil panel on the front from the same piece of gold foil. I went for super-easy on this card and used a greeting from the Saying Something Ephemera pack on the front. This card went together super-quick!
As I said earlier, the Sketched Butterflies stamps and dies were retired and are no longer available. The Brushed Silver & Gold Foil is on the Last Chance list and it is 50% off. If you’ve considered getting this great paper, I encourage you to get it while it’s still available. There is cool texture on the foil and it’s a joy to create with.
