If you’re wondering where these flowers are from, the answer is that I used the Abundant Beauty Decorative Masks (aka stencils) that are in the upcoming mini catalog. I was absolutely thrilled when I spotted them when I was viewing the catalog because I love layering stencils. So many stamp companies offer them and I have been really wishing that Stampin’ Up! would as well. My wish was granted in the mini catalog! I hope that they offer more in the future, and I would be over the moon if they would offer coordinating stamps and stencils. That’s another thing that several stamp companies offer – along with coordinating dies, and it would be fantastic if Stampin’ Up! would as well. It really offers lots of options for creativity without making things complicated. What do you think – is this something that you would like, too?

My card design is inspired by this current challenge from the Global Design Project. I have a bit more whitespace on my card but I did follow the theme of the ombré colored diecut word and the small black sentiment. I really think that this is a cool element on the card.

It is really easy to create the ombré look for the word. Here are the steps to do it:

  • Put adhesive sheet on the back of white cardstock
  • Use the small blending brush to lightly add color over the white cardstock
  • Continue to blend in color from the bottom up so that the bottom is darker and fades to lighter
  • Add a darker color at the bottom if you want even more darkness
  • Diecut the word with the darker area at the bottom

To get the diecut to pop a bit more I cut out 2 more in white with adhesive sheet in the back and layered them.

Updated August 31st: I’m so excited to share that my card was selected as one of 3 Special Mentions for the challenge. I’m thrilled to be selected for the honor and it is a bright start to my day.
