Every year during the Lenten season I send out LOTS of thinking of you cards (with a few birthday cards mixed in) to let friends and family know that I'm thinking of them. I need lots of cards that either have no sentiment or are specific "thinking of you cards". So, I decided to create this card to try out some of the new goodies from the Occasions mini catalog and add to my stash of cards.
This card features several products that are new in the Occasions mini catalog; I had the general idea for the layout buzzing around in my brain for a bit of time before I actually started cutting and stamping. I knew that I wanted to try out the Hexagon Hive Thinlet, and I wanted to have some extras layered on the top to make it not quite in-your-face obvious. The layer behind it that looks mostly yellow is actually cut from a piece of the Watercolor Wonder DSP. There are slight variations in the darkness of the color that aren't quite as apparent in the smaller picture that you see here. I also wanted to try out the flower stamps with their coordinating punch – aren't these little posies too stinkin' cute?!? I have to say that I'm happy how these different elements came together on this card.
It has also been a while since I had a chance to try out a color challenge. I searched on my favorite site for color combinations that use Crushed Curry. I started with the DSP as my starting point, and the piece that I wanted to use is a blend of Crushed Curry with Daffodil Delight. Searching on the page, I found the color combination that you see to the right. The image that they used made me think of Christmas because of the trees, but the colors are defnitely not Christmas-y. I encourage you to try out this color combination for some cards that will brighten anyone's day.
