I consider this a CAS (Clean and Simple) card because there is a fair amount of “white space” on this card. In this instance, it isn’t really “white” but rather a sizeable portion of light wood-grain patterned paper. However, the added elements of the woodcut word, the baker’s twine, and the die cut elements step this up from a “simple” card. I love the rustic colors that are in the Festive Farmhouse suite, and I think that they go beautifully with the Dashing Deer bundle.
I created this card a couple of months ago when I was preparing for a class that I wanted to offer featuring the super-awesome Dashing Deer stamps and coordinating dies along with some items from the Festive Farmhouse suite. Alas, when I had one more card to go in my design process I learned that the Festive Farmhouse Elements were no longer available. Since all of my cards featured these cool woodcut elements, I was kinda hosed. But… just because I couldn’t do this class, doesn’t mean that I can’t share the creations with you here. If you were able to get the woodcut elements, then you can copy my design directly. If you weren’t, you could go with the general theme of the card and substitute a die-cut word instead of the woodcut – or leave that diagonal strip plain in that section. Have fun experimenting!
I used this past sketch as the layout inspiration for my card. The challenge is long since passed, but I love looking at past challenge sketches for inspiration. There isn’t always a challenge that is currently active that will go well with the stamp images that I want to use. Past sketches to the rescue! If you like to use sketches as you design, I definitely encourage you to look on Pinterest or Google Images to find some sketches to inspire you. Not everyone’s brain works this way, but if it helps you, give it a try.
