I created a batch of these cards to have on hand and sent out “just because”. During Lent I send out a bunch of cards to a variety of people that I know, so I need to have a large supply of cards. I include my fellow church choir members on my card sending list, and there are a few guys in the choir. Most of these men are older, so I’m assuming that they would appreciate a card that isn’t too flowery. I know – I shouldn’t assume perspectives based on age/gender. I am ok with this because I’m still sending them a card that I think they will enjoy, and frankly that’s what really matters.
I used a stencil from another vendor and a Blending Brush to create the colored oval that you see in the background of my card. If you don’t have a stencil, you can create your own using dies and window sheets or scrap paper. I apply the ink by starting on the stencil and working toward the center of the opening. By starting on the stencil I can avoid the harsh spots of color that can happen if you start right on the cardstock. I apply ink very slowly always working from the outside toward the center so that the ink is darkest at the edges and lighter in the middle. Adding ink slowly is the ticket to avoid having dark spots – you can always add more ink, but you can’t remove it once it’s there.
