I created this card almost a year ago during an online card making class that I took. Somehow I missed sharing it last year; I didn’t share it right away during the foliage season and I quickly switched to Holiday cards. It just never felt like the right time – until now!

We are close to peak foliage around our house, and the trees are showing off some gorgeous colors. My son was in a wedding last Saturday and it was an absolutely gorgeous day! It was on the chilly and windy side in the morning, but that was the only blemish on the day. By noon it had warmed up (some) and the wind had died down. I imagine that all of the wedding pictures have some gorgeous foliage with a gorgeous blue sky as the backdrop. When we get a sunny day in the Fall in Vermont the views can be absolutely breathtaking. There is a reason that we get inundated with “leaf peepers” during this season.

One of the interesting things on this card is the stripes on the back of the middle panel of the card. When the card is closed, they show behind the leafy font panel and they are a nice backdrop for the leaves. The cool thing is that these stripes are super-simple to make. All I did was free hand stripes with the Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends markers. I used the brush tip of both the light and dark blends (which creates the alternating look of the stripes). It’s great to have another way to use these fantastic markers!

The inside of the card features some beautiful stamping with speckles added using a stamp from the Layering Leaves set. I stamped the solid-ish image of the leaves using the “stamping off” technique to lighten the ink. This means that I inked up the stamp, stamped it on scrap paper and then stamped on the panel for the inside. Then I stamped the leaf vein images in full strength. I love the look that this creates!

This card is absolutely gorgeous standing on display. With the cluster of leaves on the front, the linen thread and the embossed background, the inside of the card is simple and pretty and a lovely contrast. I don’t make many slimline cards, so it is really fun to make one occasionally. The angle on the front 2 panels makes the card especially interesting when it is standing up.
