It’s been a while since I created a card just for some creative time. I’ve been mostly focused on creating cards for the card ministry at church, new members at church, or thanking people for online orders. I actually needed a little creative time this weekend to decompress from an incredibly busy work week last week. My job is pretty busy all the time, but some weeks are just “extra” and boy was last week one of those. I had forgotten how restorative a couple of hours playing with stamps, ink and paper can be. So let me remind you – creating really is amazing at giving your brain a rest, lowering your stress, and generally resetting your psyche. I had no event that required a card, so there was no pressure and I was able to just enjoy pulling out supplies, experimenting and playing. It was joyous!

My inspiration for my design is the current challenge on the Freshly Made Sketches site. You may scratching your head and be thinking – “but you just said that you didn’t create for a purpose”. What I said earlier was true; I didn’t have a specific reason to create a card. But I still love to refer to this site for creative inspiration. It just happened that the current challenge was something that my brain was vibing with. Being able to participate in the challenge is a nice added bonus.

I used a retired mask (aka stencil) to create part of the background imagery. The other element of the vertical dots are actually in the Metallic Textures Rub-Ons which are currently on the Last Chance list. I’ve had these for a while and this is the first project where I used them. The picture doesn’t show it, but those dots are a beautiful, metallic gold. I encourage you to check out those rub-ons, they are so easy to work with and they add something special to your project.
