Last evening I watched the first in a two-part series hosted by Oprah Winfrey called “OWN Spotlight: Where Do We Go From Here?”. It was a tough listen for this white gal in the almost-whitest state in the country. But… for me that was the point. Just because what was being presented isn’t my lived experience doesn’t mean that it’s not real. I can’t begin to imagine what it is like to be a mother of a black son; a son yes, but I never had to fear every time mine left the house that he may not come home again. I confess that the show troubled my sleep last night, but I’m ready to listen more and I’m definitely watching the second episode this evening. You can learn more about the show here. My card is very small in comparison to this big issue, but I want to virtually send this card to Oprah to thank her for her work in hosting this crucial discussion.
This current challenge was the inspiration for my card. When I saw it, I immediately thought of the new Ornate Layers dies for the art panel. I explored the new catalog for various options for a stamped image to put in the frame and decided that it made sense to stick with the bundle. Plus this gave me an opportunity to pull out my Stampin’ Blends, which is always a fun thing. I used ribbon to create fill in for two of the three strips, and the stamped and die cut sentiment is the third. I tried adding some gemstones and decided that it tipped it into “too much”. I’m liking how this one turned out! What do you think?
