Peaceful Dove

Way back this summer I purchased the Peaceful Garden Suite for a Stampin’ Up!™ online crafting event. This suite is especially versatile for year-round crafting. The stamps have Christmas and non-Christmas sentiments, and the patterned paper is definitely not Christmas themed. Some of the items in the suite are now on the Last Chance list. If you want any of them I encourage you to get them while they are still available. The patterned paper, glimmer paper and embellishments are NOT on the Last Chance list so they will be sticking around for a bit.

For this card I used the embossing folder, dies and stamps to create a Christmas card. I pulled out a really old stamp set for a religious greeting inside. I made several of these cards and I’ll be sending them out to some of the church-going people on my Christmas card list. I like having a mixture of religious and secular cards to send at this time of year. The ribbon is retired from a few years ago and I love the soft, subtle extra that it adds to the card.

I do want to describe one technique that I employed on the embossed layer. I embossed a piece of Lost Lagoon cardstock as normal and trimmed it so that the card base provides a border around it. Then I used the White Craft ink pad to add ink to the raised part of the embossed layer. I have a pad that is kind of dry, so it is perfect for using the ink pad directly to add the ink. I laid the pad very lightly over the embossed layer and pulled it across to add the ink. I did this over and over in multiple directions to slowly add ink and create the softer look that also accentuates the embossed elements. If you have a juicy White Craft pad, you can use a brayer to add the ink so that you can control how much ink is getting applied. It is a very easy technique, and the effect is wonderful. I encourage you to give it a try!
