The images in the Sweet Songbirds set are so stinkin’ cute! There is a coordinating punch that cuts out portions like the beak and the wing that you see here, and it also cuts out the larger bird that is in the set. I think anyone would smile when they see one of these cute birds. For this card I used some simple masking to create the layered image that you see. I stamped the nest first, and then masked it for stamping the bird and the branch. After I stamped the sign I used the top of the Post It to mask it so I could create the shortened cords that connect it to the branch. Easy peasy, and the stamping was super quick!
This is the inside of the card. Again, isn’t that bird just soooo cute?!? I wanted to show you this so you could see another sentiment in the set as well as a different perspective of this birdie. I just had a brain blast! There is a gal in the church choir that has several birds, and I think she is the perfect recipient for this card. I can’t wait to send it to her!
This current sketch was the inspiration for my layout. This layout gave me an opportunity to use some small pieces of patterned paper and I layered black and Granny Apple Green cardstock to create a separator between the two patterns. I really like this sketch and I think that I will likely use it again in the future for other cards. Perhaps a large holly spray with a greeting for Christmas or some of the Paper Florist diecuts with a greeting. There are so many possibilities with this versatile sketch.
Update 9/5: I’m thrilled to share that my card was selected as one of the Princesses (runner up) for the challenge! Woo Hoo!!!
This challenge is what inspired me to use the Sweet Songbirds stamp set. I used the bottom row as my guide: Red, Bird/Owl, and Sunshine. The red bird has me thinking of the male cardinal that I frequently see flitting around outside my office window. I think he and his partner have a nest in a nearby tree which is why I see him so often.
For the sunshine aspect of my card, I diecut a circle from masking paper and used the negative as a mask on the white cardstock. I used a blending brush to apply some ink and create a sun in the corner. Don’t have a sun stamp? There are ways to create a sun image on your card!
Update 9/9: I’m thrilled that my card was also selected as a runner up for the Tic Toe Challenge! It really gives me a lift to have one of my cards recognized in a challenge, and part of why I join from time-to-time.
