I created this card a few weeks ago before the online stamping event that I attended in late January. One of the cool things that the event organizers do is provide pre-retreat challenges in advance to get our creative juices flowing. Each week for 4 weeks a new challenge is posted. Each of the leaders creates a challenge for us, and we get to pre-game the event in small doses. They also set up a Facebook group for the event so that we can all share our creations. It is great fun to see what everyone creates!
I created this card for the last pre-event challenge. For this challenge the leader gave us a sketch with dimensions so that we could create following her design. Her samples were very different and used different patterned papers for different colors and looks. All of her designs were vertical and I rotated it to have a horizontal orientation for my card. I was very happy to find that the image and greeting from the Sweet Peas stamp set fit into the center panel perfectly.
If you want to replicate this layout, here are the cutting dimensions:
- Granny Apple Green: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″ (standard card base)
- Green leafy DSP: 1″ x 3″ (2 pieces)
- Striped DSP: 1″ x 4 1/4″ (2 pieces)
- Poppy Parade: 1 7/8″ x 3 1/8″ (mat for focal layer)
- Basic White Thick: 1 3/4″ x 3″ (focal layer – stamped peas and greeting)

The event leaders typically include an inside panel in their creations and I followed that model with this card. It’s a great way to provide a white surface for writing a greeting and it’s an opportunity to add some more color and stamping, too. The Pumpkin Pie mat and stamped leafy image brings some of the fun on the front into the inside of the card. It just takes a little time and it adds so much.
One more shout-out for the wonderful Toadstool Gardens patterned paper. This is one of the original Sale-A-Bration offerings, and it will only be available for a few more days. The annual promotion known as Sale-A-Bration ends at midnight on February 28th. Once we’re in March, the Sale-A-Bration exclusive items will no longer be available. The regular items that were added as options in February will still be available, but only for purchase; you won’t be able to get them for free any more. So if you’ve been planning on snagging these great products, time is running out!
