I created a batch of these cards to send this year because I thought I was a little bit shy of the total I needed. Apparently I’m not able to count, and these cards are surplus for this season. But never fear, they won’t “go bad” and I can set them aside in a box to send next year. In fact, it’s very helpful to have a head start on cards for the next season because it helps reduce stress when you need to get a bunch of cards out.
When I created these cards I was thinking about highlighting a mixture of retiring and current products. Well, that didn’t quite work out as I had planned. The Sentimental Christmas paper and the Gilded Leafing have sold out and they are no longer available. Except for the ribbon, the rest of the items that I used are currently available and not retiring. They are fantastic products and I’m so glad that I have them! The ribbon is retired from years ago, but the gold satin ribbon seemed perfect for this card so I used some of it.
This really old sketch was the inspiration for my card. It was just the ticket to incorporate some patterned paper and a tag from the Greetings of the Season dies. I embossed Lost Lagoon cardstock and lightly rubbed my Craft White ink pad over the raised areas to make them stand out subtly. I really like using this technique to add some visual texture to my cards.
Let me take a moment to describe how I used the Gilded Leafing on this card. See that vertical gold strip that separates the patterned paper from the embossed cardstock? I put a strip of Tear & Tape adhesive along the edge of the embossed layer. Then I removed the backing and applied Gilded Leafing pieces to it. I then used a soft paint brush to brush away the extra leafing to get the smooth edges of the tape. I really like the look even if the Gilded Leafing can be a bit messy to work with – think of glitter, but even more light and fly-away.
