This is one of the cards that I made during the online stamping event I “attended” last month. This picture of the card closed doesn’t really give away very much about the unique fun fold that I used for this card. It looks like a standard gate-fold card with a belly band around it. Which it is, but it’s also so much more. I used some of the gorgeous Unbounded Beauty DSP for the right panel and the belly band, and embossed a piece of white cardstock for the left panel on the card. When the card is closed the focal art piece is the star of the show and the patterned papers are kind of like the backup singers.
I pulled out the Country Flowers stamp set and inked it up for the first time for this card. The images in this set and the coordinating dies are really great and useful for making cards for any occasion. I enjoyed coloring the line art images with my Stampin’ Blends, and since the images aren’t too large it didn’t take much time at all. Stamp, color, and die cut and you have a pretty image that is good for saying hi, or almost anything else. I added 3 of the In Color Shimmer gems to add a little somethin’ somethin’. I like how the front of the card turned out!
The inside of the card is what really makes this card unique. I glued a piece of patterned paper on the back of the card to give some contrast for he explosion element. I stamped a greeting on a piece of Basic White and matted that on some Petunia Pop cardstock. The explosion element is created with a piece of DSP that is scored vertically and diagonally to create the diamond fold that you see here. It isn’t hard, but you do need to take your time to coax the paper to fold in the way that you want. The bulk of the explosion layer as well as the tendency of the paper to pop up is why the belly band is so crucial to close this card. To add a personalized greeting to this card, I will write it directly on the back, or use a post-it note on the back since the inside doesn’t have a very large area for writing. Plus, I don’t want to distract from this fun explosion inside!
