This is the second, larger batch of cards that I created for the June birthdays at our church. You may remember that I mentioned them in a recent post. I made 18 of this card design which was the limit of what I could make because I only had 2 sheets of the patterned paper that I used. I used 4″ x 4″ pieces of the patterned paper, so I used the full sheet which feels really good.
The stamp set that I used is called Blooming Phrases; it is a new Online Exclusive that was released in May. I’m a sucker for scripty greetings and this one has some leaf and flower images that turn the greetings into stems. Isn’t that a really cool twist?!? I haven’t seen a lot of examples online using this set yet, but I hope this set gets a lot of love.
I used 2 retired products on this card but you can easily substitute something in your stash if you want to replicate my design. The ribbon is a black scalloped edge ribbon that came out a few years ago in a Sept-Dec (or Holiday) mini catalog. The other is the patterned paper that was retired recently. I love using retired products for the birthday card ministry because it feels like I’m making a bit of a dent in the huge stash that I’ve accumulated.

I used this old sketch as the layout inspiration for my card. I’m pretty sure that I’ve used it several times before, and it is a great go-to when I want to have a focal layer that is a vertical rectangle. I did it as a regular card instead of the square that the original sketch shows. I don’t do many square cards, and I especially don’t for the card ministry so they have as much space inside to send a greeting.
If you want to replicate my card layout, here are the cutting dimensions:
- Highland Heather: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″
- Basic Black: 4″ x 5 1/4″, 1 5/8″ x 4 1/4″
- Lemon Lime Twist: 4″ x 5 1/4″ *
- Patterned Paper: 4″ x 4″*
- Basic White: 1 1/2″ x 4 1/8″
- Ribbon: 5″
- * Cut to 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″ after the patterned paper is attached to the Lemon Lime Twist cardstock
