Last weekend I spent some time making a batch of this card to send this Christmas. I think I’m doing ok in terms of my inventory of cards this year so I’m not in panic mode, but I am sure that I need more than I have right now. So, making batches of cards is the best way to make progress. I am not mentally wired to make a large quantity of a single card to send to everyone; the monotony of doing that would suck all the joy out of it for me. I do greatly respect those who can narrow in on a single design and mass produce a bunch of cards – that’s real focus! Also, the people that I send cards to are quite varied. Some will enjoy religious cards, others whimsical Santa cards, and others classic imagery like this card here. Making a bunch of different cards suits me, and allows me to tailor more to the recipients. The trade-off with my approach is that when someone compliments me on a card that I sent to them, I’m not sure which one they received… it’s a little awkward!
In my previous post here I shared a Fall-themed card that I created using some of the Metallic & Shimmer DSP. For this card I used the same concept – a strip of the pretty glimmery paper to provide some interest to the card. Using it as an accent strip allows me to stretch the paper so that I can create a bunch of cards. I used 1/2 of the sheets of the Evening Evergreen & Gold paper for this batch of cards, so I still have 2 more sheets to use on another Christmas card. The last sheets are screaming New Years cards to me, so I’m thinking of making a bunch of those to send this year instead of Christmas cards to some of the people on my list. The nice this about doing that is that it gives me a bit more time to make the cards AND the folks receiving them will be getting something unusual this year. Stay tuned to see how that plays out! 😉
I used this challenge from the Tic Tac Toe Challenge blog as the inspiration for my card. I followed the left-most column: Green, Holiday Floral & Scoring or Embossing. I seriously considered pulling out the gnome dies and using one of those guys as a stand-in for an Elf, but I decided I wanted to stay true to Elf-dom. I also wanted to give my Wintry 3D embossing folders a try, so that seemed like a good reason to stick with the left column. I am happy with how this card turned out – what do you think?
